Collaboration Setup

A job jacket can be shared and so iit can be managed in the Collaboration Setup dialog box.

The Job Jacket tab shows the name, status (shared or embedded), and location of the jacket and specific ticket that is attached to the current project. You have several management options in this dialog box:

  • Link Project. Clicking this button opens the same Link Project dialog box that you see when you choose File > Job Jackets > Link Project. This is used to change the ticket template or jacket that is attached to a specific project.
  • Turn Sharing Off/On. This button is used to change the status (shared or embedded) of a job jacket for a specific project.
    • If the current status is Shared, clicking Turn Sharing Off embeds a copy of the job jacket into the project file.
    • If the current status is Embedded, clicking Turn Sharing On converts the embedded file to an external job-jacket XML file.
  • Get Update. This button is only available if the job jacket has been modified or is missing.

Your choices in the Updates tab affect linked job jackets as well as shared layouts and composition zones.

Evaluating a Layout

All of this explanation and preparation has been aimed toward one goal: to evaluate a layout against a defined set of options to make sure that files are prepared properly for the prepress and production workflow.

If you've gotten to this point, you already have a project that is attached to a job jacket and ticket, which contain the information needed to ensure a file will get through prepress without breaking the workflow. All that's left to do is compare your layout to the job-jacket settings.

Choosing File > Job Jackets > Evaluate Layout opens the Layout Evaluation dialog box. The top half of the dialog box shows the items that will be checked, based on settings in the job-ticket layout definition (medium type, layout specification, rule sets, and output specifications).

To take full advantage of job-jacket technology, you should evaluate all of these options at least once. You can also evaluate only certain elements using the check boxes in the left column — anything checked will be evaluated; anything unchecked will be ignored.

If you select a rule in the list, the Edit Rule button becomes available. This button opens the Edit Rule dialog box so you can change the rule settings from within the Layout Evaluation dialog box.

When you've determined what you want to evaluate, clicking the Evaluate button checks the layout according to the selected evaluation criteria. Depending on the size and complexity of your layout, evaluation might take a while.

Evaluation results can have three different values:

  • Prohibited. If a prohibited rule is broken in your layout, the evaluation shows "Failed" for the category name and a  icon appears next to the specific rule that is violated. Depending on the source of the rule, the Instructions area might provide more information about why something is prohibited, and possibly how to fix the problem.
  • Not Recommended. If these rules are broken, the evaluation shows "Failed" for the category name and a  icon appears next to the specific rule. Not Recommended rules are typically problem areas that should be fixed if possible (e.g., faux italic styling instead of using the true italic font).
  • Noted. Items that are simply worth noting before output are marked with a icon.

If more than one object violates a rule, the number of problem instances appears in parentheses next to the icon. You can select a specific rule and click the Show Case buttons to find the problems in the layout.

Note: You can't interact with the layout while the Layout Evaluation
dialog box is open. You have to close the dialog box so you can
make necessary corrections, then reopen and re-evaluate to verify
the file against the job-jacket settings.
